adv editing

In this image I adjusted the contrast with brightness/contrast and curves. Then I selected the lower section of dark bark, selected the inverse, and used the Gaussian blur to soften the main area of the tree trunk. I wanted to enhance the texture of the dark bark.

Kate, on first glance this image is GROSS! What is it? I think I'm not looking at it correctly. Listen, on a small scale you can't see it, but when I clicked on it to enlarge, it looked like there was some posterization that was creating a fine halo effect between the light and dark areas. Is this in the original?
